Eye Exams

Yearly eye exams are important to ensure healthy eyes and a lifetime of good vision.

Here are some tips and what to expect:
- Bring your most recent eyeglasses and any other pairs you wear regularly.  This will help us know if your eyes are changing and may help us figure out any vision concerns you are currently having.
- Please fill out the online forms that can be accessed in the Online Forms.
- Know the details of your vision benefits or medical insurance if possible.
- Bring in your medical insurance card.
- Know what brand and power of contact lenses you are wearing
- Let us know if you have had problems with any brands or lens care products in the past.
- Know what medications you are taking or bring in a list - include all medications on your history form not just eye related medications.
- Be prepared to show your drivers license or picture ID at check in.

- If you have diabetes:
- Check your blood sugar shortly before your eye exam.
- Know your most recent Hemoglobin A1C number.
- Know the contact information for your primary care physician.

There are various types of eye exam services.  During annual eye exams we will run screening tests for any concerns and evaluate your vision.  If you have medical concerns affecting your eyes then these need to be evaluated with a medical eye exam.  Contact lens evaluations are done yearly to assess if the lenses are a healthy fit and the vision is optimized for your needs.

Some medical eye conditions require additional testing and more frequent monitoring such as for glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, dry eye and when you are taking certain medications.

We are able to care for many eye conditions and diseases in our office.  When patients are in need of specialized testing, advanced diagnosis or treatment we will refer patients to the appropriate physician.  We have good relationships with many nearby ophthalmologists who specialize in cataract surgery, corneal diseases, retinal pathology, and glaucoma treatment.
